US President Donald Trump welcomed NASCAR fans as the 2020 Daytona 500 kicked off in Daytona Beach, Florida on Sunday. "There is no greater thrill than to join you at the world centre of racing for the 62nd Daytona 500, so exciting," said Trump in his opening remarks, alongside wife Melania. The US President thanked Gold Star families, an organisation made by people who lost family members in the Iraqi war and were attending the event. "Joining us today are Gold Star Families whose loved ones made the supreme sacrifice to defend our freedom and our flag," he said. Trump went on to congratulate the new military enlistees who took an oath "to put their lives on the line for our country." Just before the start of the race, Trump became the second president to deliver the race iconic command 'Gentlemen, start your engines.' He then took a ceremonial spin around Daytona International Speedway on the presidential limo, dubbed 'The Beast.'
