Joint Swedish and American drills kicked off in Skove, Sweden, on Thursday as part of the Aurora-17 military exercises. Swedish and American units faced off with combat fighting APCs (Armoured Personnel Carriers) and tanks as they simulated a situation in which one country is the invader and the second tries to protect its borders. American Bradley APCs and M1A1 Abrams tanks fought Swedish CV90 APCs and 122 tanks. Aurora-17 is the largest military drill to have been carried out in Sweden in the past 23 years, and is being carried out between September 11 and 29. More than 19,000 Swedish soldiers are taking part in the exercises, alongside military units from Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Lithuania, Norway and the USA.
