NTPC signs term loan of Rs 5,000 cr with SBI

Power generation company NTPC on Saturday said it has signed a term loan agreement for Rs 5,000 crore was signed with State Bank of India (SBI). The loan facility has been extended at an interest rate linked to 3-month MCLR (marginal cost of funds-based lending rate) of the bank and has a door-to-door tenure of 15 years, NTPC said in a statement. The loan will be utilised to part finance the capital expenditure of NTPC, it said.

Temple in Gujarat switches to solar power, uses saved money to fund college

In a bid to save on electricity usage, the management of Badrinarayan temple in Gujarat's Surat district has switched to using solar power for managing shrine's energy consumption and are utilising the money thus saved to promote education in the region.Temple's trustee Praveen Chandra said that the electricity bill used to be very high, so they switched to solar power."The motive behind this was to save money. The bill has dropped from Rs 1.5-2 Lakh per month to Rs 10-12,000 per month. With the money that is saved every month, the shrine started a college and a school for Sanskrit," Chandra said.The trustee said that fifty-kilowatt capacity solar panels have been installed on the terrace of the temple with an expense of Rs 25 Lakh.

Soft Bank sister firm to invest USD 4 bn in renewable energy

SB Energy, a sister company of Soft Bank of Japan, has announced that it will invest USD 4 billion or Rs 30,000 crore in renewable energy sector in Gujarat, a state government release said on Friday. The announcement was made at a meeting between chief minister Vijay Rupani and Executive Chairman of SB Energy Manoj Kohli. The investment will be in solar energy, wind energy and other unconventional renewable energy sources, it said. The present installed capacity of renewable energy in Gujarat is 8,885 MW and the state government aims to ramp it up to 30,000 MW by 2022. "Of this 30,000 MW, 20,000 MW will be used in the state while another 10,000 MW will be given to other states. SB Energy's announcement of investing 4 billion US dollars will go a long way in achieving the target," the release said. US payrolls light fire under copper price

The price of copper surged on Friday after reports showed the US economy in robust health on the back of strong payroll numbers – the best reading since January – and progress in trade talks with China. Trade worries have dogged copper price bulls for the better part of a year and China is vital to overall demand for the metal widely used in the manufacturing, construction, transportation and electricity sectors. In afternoon trading in New York, copper for delivery in March continued to climb hitting $2.7535 a pound ($6,070 a tonne), up 3.4% on the day and the highest since July. A panel of more than 30 analysts polled by FocusEconomics expects prices to stay above today's level during the first quarter of next year and improve further by the end of next year. Designs of future metro stations will aim to get platinum rating for green measures: DMRC chief

All future buildings of Delhi Metro will be designed to straight away accommodate rooftop solar panels and to eventually get top score from green building rating authorities, DMRC chief Mangu Singh said on Friday. Addressing a gathering at the fourth edition of National Conference on Green Metro Systems at Metro Bhawan here, he said, "The DMRC has been taking steps over the years to make the systems and operations more energy efficient. "According to the green building initiatives, we have taken certain decisions, and all new stations shall be designed so as to get platinum rating," he said. Platinum rating is the highest rating given to structures by the Indian Green Building Council (IGBC) for adopting best green practices.
